The Full Intermediate License Law

Be at least 16 years old

No exceptions - you must wait until your 16th birthday

Hold instruction permit for 6+ months

Must be violation-free during this time

Complete approved driver education course

Like this one! Both classroom and behind-the-wheel required

Complete 50 hours supervised driving (10 at night)

Parent/guardian must sign affidavit confirming hours

Pass knowledge and driving skills tests

Knowledge test: 40 questions, need 32 correct (80%)

First 6 months: NO passengers under 20

Exception: Immediate family members (parents, siblings, children)

Next 6 months: Maximum 3 passengers under 20

Still excluding immediate family from the count

This is a SECONDARY offense

Police need another reason to stop you first (speeding, etc.)

No driving between 1 AM - 5 AM

For the first 12 months with intermediate license

Exception: With licensed driver 25+ years old

Must have been licensed for at least 5 years

Also a SECONDARY offense

Enforced only if stopped for another violation

ZERO cell phone use while driving

Not even hands-free or at red lights!

This is a PRIMARY offense

Police CAN pull you over just for this - no other reason needed!

Minimum $136 fine for first offense

Goes on your record and affects insurance rates

First violation: Warning letter to parents

DOL notifies your parents/guardians of the violation

Second violation: 6-month suspension or until 18

Whichever comes first - could lose license for 2 years!

Third violation: Suspended until age 18

No exceptions - you're done driving until you're an adult

Violations stay on record for 3 years

Affects insurance rates and future employment
