Open Curriculum (Creative Commons License)

Street Law Open Drive is proud to offer a free, open-source driver education curriculum to support instructors, schools, and students across Washington State—and beyond.

We’ve released the core curriculum under the


Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0)

What You Can Use Freely

The following materials are open to everyone for non-commercial use:

  • The full 15-day course framework
  • Lesson titles and topic descriptions
  • Daily learning objectives and module outlines
  • Suggested activities, RCW references, and prompts
  • Lesson/module titles and daily learning objectives
  • Public-facing topic descriptions and content outlines
  • RCW citations and legally accessible references
  • Community-submitted questions, stories, and short reflections
  • Drive Lab student reflection tools (Drive sheets)

These materials may be freely used, adapted, and shared by any school, instructor, or organization provided attribution is given as follows:

  • Copy and share the materials
  • Adapt or remix the framework for your program
  • Use it in commercial or non-commercial settings

This honors the work of the original creators and supports the spirit of community collaboration.

Protected Instructional Systems (Limited-Use License Only)

While our curriculum framework is open, our full instructional tools and course delivery systems are not part of the Creative Commons license.

These include:

  • Slide decks (Google Slides / PowerPoint)

  • Time-locked lesson modules – LMS (Learning Management System)

  • Interactive quizzes, timers, polls, and assessments

  • Drive Lab coaching guides and student reflection tools

  • Printable worksheets, digital handouts, and hosted course content

These materials are:

  • Protected instructional products

  • Shared only under Limited-Use Licensing

  • May be sold, donated, or restricted depending on alignment with our mission

  • Not for public download, remixing, or resale

Use is granted only through a signed agreement, and all decisions are made by the Street Law Open Drive team.

The future of driver education is almost here.

Street Law Open-Drive Cloud is our next-generation platform designed for schools and instructors who want a powerful, plug-and-play solution. Built on the foundation of the open-source Open Drive curriculum, the Cloud version adds:

  • Time-locked digital modules for self-paced or hybrid courses

  • Embedded assessments and progress tracking

  • Full slide decks and downloadable coaching materials

  • Access to Drive Lab tools for behind-the-wheel instruction

These tools are protected under a Limited-Use License Agreement and will be available to approved programs and instructors through our hosted platform.

Access will be limited and granted by request.
